Description

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for supporting safe and efficient surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile environment, and assisting the surgical team. In a small critical access hospital, this role requires flexibility, independence, and the ability to support a variety of surgical cases with limited staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain the sterile field, ensuring all instruments and supplies are properly sterilized and available
  • Set up operating rooms according to procedure requirements
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and anticipating needs
  • Position patients and assist with surgical draping
  • Operate and troubleshoot basic surgical equipment
  • Perform instrument counts and ensure compliance with safety protocols
  • Clean and restock operating rooms following procedures
  • Assist with inventory management and supply ordering
  • Support additional clinical duties as needed in a small hospital setting
Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred
  • Certification (e.g., CST) preferred or required per facility policy
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and surgical procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
